The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences and Medicine.

Your role

Research and Scientific Output

  • Conduct independent and collaborative research in mathematical, computational, and data-driven modelling of complex transport and logistics networks
  • Contribute to the planning, execution, and supervision of research activities, ensuring high scientific quality in close collaboration with the Professor
  • Publish in high-impact journals and disseminate research at international conferences

Project Development and Management

  • Identify, prepare, and manage research proposals and funded projects, including coordination and reporting

Teaching and Supervision

  • Contribute up to 90 hours per year of teaching in Bachelor and Master programmes at the Department of Engineering
  • Supervise Master students carrying out practical or thesis work
  • Contribute to student assessment activities, including writing and reviewing assignments and examination materials
  • Participate in supervisory committees for postgraduate students

Collaboration and Academic Service

  • Participate in and support the organization and administration of research-group activities, workshops, and seminars
  • Facilitate collaboration and knowledge exchange across laboratories and disciplines within the Department of Engineering

Your profile

Education and Scientific Background

  • PhD in Mathematics, Engineering, or a closely related discipline with a focus on modelling, optimization, or data analysis
  • Detailed knowledge of relevant models, techniques, and methods used in transportation and logistics, with the ability to develop new ones
  • Interest in curiosity-driven and interdisciplinary work

Research Excellence and Project Experience

  • Evidence of independent scientific achievement, including publications in reputable journals and active participation in international conferences and research networks
  • Demonstrated capacity to plan, coordinate, and deliver research projects, possibly involving multiple partners

Teaching and Supervision

  • Proven ability to contribute to curriculum design, teaching, and supervision

Technical and Computational Skills

  • Proficiency in at least one major scientific programming language (e.g., Python, MATLAB) for model implementation and data analysis
  • Knowledge of traffic modelling software (e.g. Visum, Aimsun, SUMO, MATSim) is an asset

Communication and Collaboration

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; knowledge of French or German is an asset
  • Strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in an interdisciplinary and multicultural environment
