Your role

The PhD position is part of the CART-4D project, a "Made in Luxembourg" collaboration between the University of Luxembourg and ARSPECTRA. The doctoral candidate will be embedded in the Computational Mechanics (Legato) group and enrolled in the Doctoral Programme in Complex Systems Science.

Depending on background and interests, the PhD may include:

  • Development of error-controlled biomechanical models in SOFA / FEniCSx / SOniCS for real-time use on AR devices
  • Design of Bayesian neural-network surrogates and graph-based models for tissue deformation and brain shift
  • Coupling of physics-based and data-driven models, studying when and how to switch between them in real time
  • Integration with ARSPECTRA's software stack, e.g. marker tracking, SLAM, gaze tracking, and participation in phantom and clinical studies with CHL

Your profile

  • Master's degree in computational mechanics, applied mathematics, physics, computer science, biomedical engineering or a related field
  • Good knowledge of numerical methods and finite-element analysis
  • Solid programming skills in C++ and/or Python
  • Experience with SOFA, FEniCSx or similar simulation frameworks is a strong plus
  • Motivation to work at the crossroads of mechanics, AI and medical technology, in close collaboration with industrial and clinical partners

Language Requirements:
