About the FSTM

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine (FSTM) at the University of Luxembourg contributes multidisciplinary expertise in the fields of Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, Life Sciences and Medicine.
Through its dual mission of teaching and research, the FSTM
seeks to generate and disseminate knowledge and train new generations of responsible citizens in order to better understand, explain and advance society and environment we live in.

Your role

  • Design and conduct quasi-static push-out tests on steel-concrete composite dowels subjected to shear loading
  • Design and conduct creep tests on recycled aggregate concrete samples and composite dowel specimens under constant shear loading
  • Perform advanced numerical simulations of composite-dowel behaviour, e.g. quasi-static and long-term performance, using Abaqus
  • Analyse test and simulation results, and develop and validate mechanics-based resistance models for composite dowels under shear loading, accounting for time-dependent effects, e.g creep and shrinkage, of recycled aggregate concrete on resistance
  • Support structural experimental investigations on slim hybrid composite beams
  • Deliver technical reports, knowledge-transfer documentation, and scientific articles
  • Actively participate in dissemination, communication, and outreach activities
  • Collaborate with academic and industrial partners across France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg, and neighbouring regions in Europe

Your profile

  • Master's degree in Civil & Structural Engineering
  • Proven track record of research and/or practical experience in steel-concrete composite structures, and nonlinear structural analysis
  • Experience in writing scientific papers
  • Extensive experience with FEM structural simulation, and advanced skills in using CAD tools such as Autodesk AutoCAD and Inventor
  • Interest or experience in sustainable construction, recycled aggregate concrete, and resource-efficient structural design
  • Ability to work in an international R&D environment

Additional strengths:

  • Experience investigating long-term structural behaviour due to concrete creep and shrinkage
  • Experience in scientific writing or high-impact research collaboration
  • Programming or scientific-computing skills with tools such as MATLAB and Python for model implementation and data analysis

Language skills:

  • Proficiency in English is mandatory. French or German language skills for cross-border communication and technical-document support will be considered as advantage

We offer

  • Multilingual and international character. Modern institution with a personal atmosphere. Staff coming from 90 countries. Member of the "University of the Greater Region" (UniGR)
