The “Laboratoire National de Santé” (Public Institut au Grand-Duché de Luxembourg) is recruiting an Experienced Laboratory Technician (BAC +3) Ref°397 (m/f) for the Unit “Environmental Hygiene and Human Biological Monitoring (SUBI)” (Department Health Protection) in a full time (40h/week), permanent position.

 

About the Laboratoire national de santé


The « Laboratoire national de santé » (LNS) is a public institution under the supervision of the Ministry of Health in Luxembourg. As a multidisciplinary institute, the LNS consists of four scientific departments in the fields of medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine and health protection. In addition, the LNS is also hosting the National Center of Pathology and the National Center of Genetics. The LNS has its premises in Dudelange since 2013.

The mission of the LNS is to develop analytical and scientific expertise related to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases and to ensure the role of a national control or reference laboratory as well as to carry out forensic tasks. The institution also contributes to the development, harmonization and promotion of technical laboratory methods in close collaboration with local and international analytical laboratories. Within the scope of its responsibilities, the LNS is also leading research and teaching activities in collaboration with partners in Luxembourg and abroad.

With its modern infrastructure in line with the recent evolution of medical and analytical sciences, the LNS is an ambitious laboratory with innovative projects that increase its expertise in public health.


About the Environmental Hygiene and Human Biological Monitoring” unit


The Unit “Environmental Hygiene and Human Biological Monitoring” has strong expertise in indoor pollution, occupational hygiene and human biomonitoring. For indoor pollution, the Unit is in charge of the laboratory analyses for the national monitoring programs in Luxembourg. These monitoring programs are carried out in patients’ houses, schools, and in public building.  The laboratory analyses include the evaluation of chemical and microbiological exposures. The laboratory is accredited ISO 17025 for occupational and environmental monitoring activities, and is seeking accreditation ISO 15189 for human biomonitoring.


JOB DESCRIPTION:


As a laboratory technician, you will:

  • Be working under the direct supervision and guidance of the Technical Responsible(s), which will further report to the Unit Head.
  • Receive, encode and process samples;
  • Perform laboratory work related to the airborne microbial contaminants and/or microbial compounds analysis, including the quantification and identification of moulds and bacteria;
  • Perform analytical laboratory work for the analyses of organic pollutants and/or their metabolites in samples collected for the indoor environment and/or for human biomonitoring (using GC-MS, GC-MS/MS, LC-MS/MS).
  • Participate in the optimization of existing methods and the development of new methods under the supervision of the Technical Responsible(s).
  • Participate in the validation of the developed methods according to the quality system requirements;
  • Participate in the daily maintenances and troubleshooting of the laboratory equipment;
  • Take part in daily quality control activities (document management, procedure writing, calibration, metrology, etc.);
  • Be involved in the management of consumables stock and purchasing.

JOB SPECIFIC SKILLS:


  • A Laboratory technician formation (BAC +3) giving access to the authorization to practice as a “laborantin” in Luxembourg, with strong experience in microbiology and molecular biology as well as proven experience in GC-MS and LC-MS .
  • Knowledge of other analytical techniques is considered an asset.
  • Experience of more than 5 years in microbiology and organic compounds analysis and preferentially in the field of occupational and environmental health (environmental and/or human biological samples).
  • Good knowledge of the standard ISO 17025 and preferentially working experience in an accredited laboratory (ISO 17025 or 15189).
  • Fluency in French (oral and written). Good working proficiency in English. German and/or Luxembourgish will be considered as an asset.
