About the LCSB

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) is an interdisciplinary research centre of the University of Luxembourg.
We conduct fundamental and translational research in the field of Systems Biology and Biomedicine - in the lab, in the clinic and
in silico. We focus on neurodegenerative processes and are especially interested in Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease and their contributing factors. The LCSB recruits talented scientists from various disciplines: computer scientists, mathematicians, biologists, chemists, engineers, physicists and clinicians from more than 50 countries currently work at the LCSB. We excel because we are truly interdisciplinary, and together we contribute to science and society.

The Disease Modelling & Screening Platform (DMSP) is a dynamic scientific service provider, operating under the joint auspices of the LCSB and the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH). It is dedicated to advancing translational research projects at the LCSB and LIH, as well as for external clients.

At DMSP, we are committed to advancing early drug discovery through the implementation of cell and organoid-based phenotypic screening. Our primary goal is to support research teams within the LCSB and LIH, as well as academic and commercial partners both in Luxembourg and abroad. Our overarching vision is to provide access to state-of-the-art infrastructure, complemented by expert guidance in experimental design, model selection, compound delivery, and the development and execution of high-content analysis.

The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Scientific Platform Coordinator, as part of LCSB`s Scientific Platforms, in close alignment with the DMSP Steering Committee and the LCSB Director.

Your role

The Manager of the Disease Modelling & Screening Platform (DMSP) will lead activities in developing visual assays for high-content screening (HCS) and oversee collaborative drug discovery research projects, guiding a team of 2-3 research support engineers and technicians.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Experiment Design and Execution: Support customers in designing various experiments, including assay development and optimization, integration of 3D cell culture, compound library screening, identification of lead candidates, and CRISPR-Cas9 screening
  • Imaging Technology Integration: Adapt and incorporate advanced imaging technologies to analyze complex cell mixtures
  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyze data and present results in written reports and documentation.
  • Instrument Maintenance: Maintain and troubleshoot analytical instruments as needed
  • Innovative Approaches: Explore and implement innovative methodologies to strengthen the platform's technological foundation, facilitating the development of new methods, publications, and patents
  • Strategic and Operational Management: Formulate and execute strategic and operational R&D and business plans to drive platform growth and success
  • Financial Oversight: Oversee the operational management of the platform, including cost calculation, pricing, invoicing, and financial oversight
