Head of Project Procurement (m/f/d)

Become a part of our future at Paul Wurth S.A. in Luxembourg where we are looking to recruit a Head of Project Procurement. You will lead this multidisciplinary Project Procurement team and be the contact person for all internal and external project related commercial and contractual matters.


Role and mission:

  • You are responsible for the Project Procurement activities of the Supply Chain Team, including the coordination of the overall services provided by the Supply Chain Team to the Project Implementation organization, and including achievement of the targets set by the projects for the Supply Chain (cost, on-time delivery, quality, budget)
  • You are managing the Project Procurement operations, from early phase during project acquisition, until end of project execution, including, but not limited to, building Project Procurement Plan, inquiring and selecting suppliers by TCO approach, expediting and follow-up of contract execution, coordination of quality and logistics activities
  • As Head of Project Procurement, you are leading a local Team of Project Procurement Managers of Supply Chain of the SMS Group who are embedded in the Project Core Teams. You are also in connection with the global team in order to develop leverage opportunities and communize best practices. You take care of the Project Procurement for OEM projects and R&D innovation projects.

Your tasks:

  • Support the development of the Supply Chain
  • Supporting Project Procurement Managers with the establishment of project specific Supply Chain Strategies and with contractual issues during negotiation with suppliers
  • Drawing up and reviewing supplier contracts and monitoring them for the duration of the contractual service provision process
  • Drafting and checking a wide range of documents throughout the entire procurement process
  • Ensuring the proper processing and implementation of the commercial contract contents
  • Independent handling of complex ordering and awarding processes, from requests to negotiations, signing of contracts to the implementation of defined project goals
  • Coordination of all supply chain activities for a specific project
  • Development of the project specific supply chain strategy
  • Drawing up and reviewing supplier contracts and monitoring them for the duration of the contractual service provision process
  • Ensuring the proper processing and implementation of the commercial contract contents
  • Independent handling of complex ordering and awarding processes, from request to negotiations, signing of contracts to the implementation of defined project goals
  • Ensuring milestones are achieved from a project supply chain perspective (cost, quality, time)
  • Preparation, review and independent handling of complex claims
  • Assistance in the development of an end-to-end supply chain.

What do we expect?

  • Track proven record of many years’ experience in the field of development, planning and construction of major international projects (EPC) with the main focus on Contract and Claim Management, Project and Risk Management
  • Experience in managing international teams
  • At least 10 years of professional experience and success with a track record in a comparable industrial environment
  • Relevant professional experience in project management and/or in the procurement of technical components and services ideally in the mechanical and plant engineering sector
  • Experience preferred in the Steel Industry or Oil and Gas, with an interest in the Capital Projects (plant engineering and construction)
  • Experience in dealing with international suppliers as well as knowledge of international contractual conditions
  • Understanding of manufacturing and logistics processes
  • Knowledge of tools for scheduling and project management, of the SAP/ERP system and of MS Office
  • Reading and interpreting technical drawings and parts lists for the preparation of inquiry documents
  • Fluent in English. German or French is considered as an advantage
  • A creative and innovative mind-set coupled with the ability to work in a team and independently in an international environment
  • Good conflict management skills as well as excellent negotiation skills
  • Excellent communication, team working and negotiation with internal or external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication and presentation skills
  • Willingness to travel worldwide as per business requirements.
