Job Purpose


Advises the Site Manager & associated site teams on all aspects of health and safety. Develops, reviews, plans and co-ordinates the sites health and safety management systems and ensures compliance with company health and safety Policies, Standards, Objectives & local legislative requirements.


Your responsibilities will be


Accountability:


  • Ensuring that a HS Management System is established, maintained & continually improved that identifies the scope of the sites operations & hazardous activities, potential internal / external issues & the needs & expectations of workers & other interested parties.
  • Establishing & implementing processes for consultation & participation of workers i.e. HS Committees, European Work Council (EWC) members, etc.
  • Ensuring that relevant HS aspects are owned at the appropriate level to ensure effective resourcing of relevant requirements to personnel at the operational interface to enable HS personnel to take on a more advisory role supporting the site.
  • Establishing & maintaining arrangements to ensure effective safe systems of work are in place to control any residual risks identified as a result of risk assessments, company policy, legal requirements & HS objectives, in order to prevent injury, occupational ill-health.
  • Ensuring compliance with company health and safety policies, standards & procedures.
  • Ensuring compliance with local legislative requirements & that there is a system in place for measuring & monitoring that they are being reviewed, updated & met.
  • Planning, leading, organising & controlling the delivery of the groups & site’s objectives and overall performance (in terms of health and safety) and provides insights regarding developments based on analysis.
  • Ensuring group objectives & initiatives are fully implemented & embedded in defined timescales.
  • Ensuring all employee liability claims have been investigated and providing opinion on liability.
  • Ensuring that regular internal audits are conducted to confirm compliance against the health and safety management systems & that corrective action plans are implemented to address any non-compliances.
  • Managing intervention visits by Competent Authority & any improvement plans and actions arising from the visits.


Working Together:


  • Provide consultative support to line management in the operation of the site health and safety management system and associated safe systems of work.
  • Provide guidance and training to line managers and employees on health and safety issues to improve capability & competence.
  • Provide support to Managers in managing loss control, company insurance & potential prosecution issues & assist the site teams with the implementation of policies and procedures.
  • Liaise with and maintain pro-active working relationships with local health & safety regulatory bodies, company Insurers and other authority bodies.
  • Lead investigations for lost time injuries & high potential incidents & coach and support managers to establish root cause for all investigations.
  • Establishes effective communication processes and alignment with HS Committees and Works Councils to ensure effective engagement and worker participation.
  • Networks with other site HS Managers / stakeholders inside and outside of McBride to develop and share knowledge, experience, and leverage best practice.
  • Liaise with the Occupational Health Department to ensure, where appropriate, health and safety issues are fully considered and integrated.

  • Analyse monthly accident/incident statistical information identifying trends and making recommendations for remedial action.
  • Establishing, achieving, enforcing, and continuously improving the performance levels of the site in terms of health and safety.
  • Establish, monitor, and maintain KPI’s to drive improvement in health and safety performance.
  • Coaches, mentors, and develops site personnel to improve capability and establish a culture of functional and operational excellence, continuous improvement and accountability, professionalism and commitment to company values and behaviors.
  • Developing a system to identify HS training requirements based on role, gaps in training and training completed i.e. Matrices.
  • Liaise with the Group H&S Lead to ensure the site adopts group best practices and learns from incidents at other sites.


Always Committed:


  • Develop and manage site HS training plans and communicate priorities.
  • Drive and help develop the sites HS management system.
  • Produce and manage improvements plans to address findings from internal and external audits.
  • Raise awareness across the site on health and safety issues i.e. toolbox talks, bulletins, briefings, updates, communications, training etc.
  • Identify significant site risks, agree priorities with SMT and ensure plans in place to improve (i.e., HS Gap Analysis Risks and ‘A’ Risks)
  • Ensure completion of hazard studies and update of Safety Report or Hazardous Area Classification report following site changes.
  • Lead change management processes
  • Develop systems to prioritise and manage HS actions arising from audits, accidents, incidents, intervention visits Implements and operates the common HS platform and identifies and responds effectively to hazards in health and safety.


Skills and education we are looking for


  • University degree in Health & Safety, Luxemburg C4 Category Qualifications is a plus
  • At least 5 years of work experience in a relevant filed
  • Fluent in French and English
  • Leadership management education and experience
  • Experience IT-user, especially Microsoft Office and preferred SAP knowledge
