The Department of Engineering (DoE) is a multidisciplinary department within the Faculty of Sciences, Technology, and Medicine. The Department of Engineering covers a wide range of engineering fields, including civil, electrical, mechanical engineering, and geophysics. Its primary objective is to develop technological solutions and promote sustainable and economical resource utilisation. The Department aims to provide the necessary expertise to meet the technological demands of Luxembourg and the Greater Region's industrial and public sectors. One notable aspect of the Department's research focus is the utilisation of numerical simulation techniques and their validation.

Overall, the DoE is committed to advancing engineering knowledge and promoting the application of technology in a manner that aligns with sustainability, resource efficiency, and the needs of industrial and public actors in the region.

The University of Luxembourg (Uni.lu) is seeking to hire a postdoctoral researcher within the Department of Engineering of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine under the supervision of Prof. Slawomir KEDZIORA.

The postdoc's role is to participate in developing, designing, and analysing a powertrain with the partner company's experts for use in hybrid agricultural and construction vehicles.

Your Role...

  • Perform cutting research and education tasks in the fields of mechanical engineering
  • Provide high-level support to internal PhD research projects and external industrial partners to develop a structure model of transmission components
  • Develop models of transmission and driveline in Siemens Amesim/ Modelica software, develop NV&H model of transmission and driveline
  • Develop an efficiency model of a transmission and a driveline
  • Attend internal and external design review meetings
  • Writing internal reports documenting development steps
  • Participate in the research, education, and training activities: Bachelor, Master, and PhD programs
  • Writing funding demands and scientific articles in the field of mechanical powertrains

What we expect from you…

  • Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent degree
  • 5+ years of engineering/technology development/research experience 0 - 2 years of experience in powertrain engineering or related fields
  • Understanding modelling mechanical systems like transmission, synchronises, gear trains, and drivelines
  • Experience in computer-aided structural modelling
  • Experience with finite element software like ANSYS, ABAQUS or NASTRAN
  • Experience with CAD modelling software like Autodesk Inventor and Autodesk Fusion 360
  • Understanding and implementation of project management best practices. In particular, the ability to manage multiple projects under strict timelines as well as the ability to work well in a demanding, dynamic environment and meet overall objectives
  • Commitment, teamwork, interpersonal skills, and a critical mind interpersonal and communication skills
  • Fluent written and verbal communication skills in English are mandatory. The University of Luxembourg is set in a multilingual context; therefore, knowledge of at least one of the two official languages of Luxembourg (French or German) is an asset
