We are currently looking for a Nurse for our department “National Center of Genetics” for a temporary position of 6-month on a full-time basis (40h/week)
ABOUT THE LABORATOIRE NATIONAL DE SANTÉ
The LNS is a major player in Luxembourg’s healthcare sector, serving the country’s patients, doctors and hospitals. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the LNS is a multidisciplinary public institution organized around six medical departments, two of which are designated as national diagnostic centers for human genetics and pathology respectively.
The LNS employs around 400 highly qualified staff with diverse backgrounds. The main purpose of the LNS is to develop analytical activities and scientific expertise relating to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases; to act as a national control or reference laboratory; and to carry out forensic missions. The LNS also collaborates with the University of Luxembourg and other biomedical research institutions, both nationally and internationally, on research and teaching activities.
In particular, in the field of diagnostics, the LNS covers the following fields of application: medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine, environmental medicine, morphological and molecular pathology, and clinical genetics, as well as sequencing for rare diseases, oncology and pathogens.
ABOUT THE NATIONAL CENTER OF GENETICS (NCG)
The National Center of Genetics (NCG), at the LNS, is responsible for human genetic care in Luxembourg. One of the goals of the NCG is to build up genomic medicine and precision oncology, using a state of the art sequencing facility, and to provide high-level health care to the Luxembourgish population. The NCG is a major stakeholder of two national public health programs: the Plan National Maladie Rare and the Plan National Cancer.
YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcoming and communicating with patients and their relatives,
- Perform blood collection procedures for adult and pediatric patients using age-appropriate techniques and best clinical practices,
- Assist with patient management and care, including weighing and measuring minor patients,
- Ensure correct sample collection (blood, saliva) and coordinate shipment to the laboratory,
- Assisting with the organization of genetic tests, both in-house and outsourced: checking documents, completing analysis request forms, routing samples. This includes coordinating with the clinical genetics team, other LNS teams and external laboratories,
- Participate in continuous quality improvement initiatives and update the department’s procedures and documentation,
- Organize consultation rooms and equipment,
- Participate in the documentation and follow-up of multidisciplinary consultation meetings,
- Ensuring the computer entry of clinical and administrative data (Office, LIMS, html forms),
- Maintain accurate, confidential, and compliant patient records in electronic medical systems.
YOUR PROFILE
- Nurse with a nursing diploma eligible for authorization to practice in Luxembourg,
- Ability to perform blood sampling with proficiency and demonstrated experience in both adult and pediatric patients,
- Excellent communication and counselling skills,
- Ability to understand detailed family histories and pedigrees,
- High attention to detail and organizational skills,
- Empathy, cultural sensitivity, and ability to support patients through complex decisions,
- Good command of English and fluent in French or German. Luxembourgish will be considered as an asset.
