Nearly all research projects are supported by a network of national and international partnerships, several with public or industrial stakeholders. At the University, the Department cooperates across faculties and with the interdisciplinary centres. In particular, the new interdisciplinary centre focused on complex environmental systems opens up significant opportunities for future collaborations.
Your role
The Department of Engineering of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Medicine seeks an outstanding candidate in Digital Methods in Construction to strengthen the Research Area in Civil and Environmental Engineering. We are looking for a candidate enthusiastic about teaching in a diverse student community and an excellent researcher in their field. The candidate should be eager to engage in interdisciplinary collaborations, both with academic and industrial partners.
The ideal candidate should enhance the Department of Engineering 's capabilities in digital methods in construction. The candidate should set-up an internationally leading research group in this area. This includes (but is not restricted) to research fields related to novel methods and technics in construction, such as digital twins, metaverse, BIM, sensor networks for tracking data or tracing structural components and construction robotics. These will be data-driven and explore the opportunities deriving from AI and machine-learning. Experience in construction management is regarded as an asset.
In addition, the candidate will:
- Contribute to teaching in the Bachelor in Engineering and Master in Civil Engineering Sciences, specifically to courses such as Construction and Project Management, BIM or Advanced Digital Methods in Construction
- Support the trinational "European Construction Management" bachelor's programme in collaboration with HTW Saar and Université de Lorraine
- Contribute to the Department's scientific strategy, in particular to its visibility, performance and impact
- Represent the field by participating in standards committees and professional associations

Your profile
- A Ph.D. degree in civil engineering or related area
- A proven track record in research
- Experience in acquiring and managing research projects
- Experience in teaching at the undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels
- Good presentation, communication, organisational and management skills
- Interest in interdisciplinary collaborations

- Contract Type: CDI or CDD - this position is offered at the Associate Professor or Assistant Professor level, depending on qualification. At the Associate Professor level, the position is tenured. At the Assistant Professor level, tenure and promotion are possible after 5 years, upon positive evaluation
