A job search takes time and it is necessary to be well organised in order to be effective and successful in your application. If you are currently employed and looking for other career opportunities, then this article will help you create a great resume in a few minutes.

1. Gathering information, creating a draft

The first step is to decide what information you want to put on your CV. Remember that everything has to fit on one page, so let's keep it concise. Take 5 minutes to create this draft.

At the top of the page, your CV should include your surname, first name, profile picture and the job title. It is very important to indicate the position you are applying for at the top of your CV. This title gives a theme to your curriculum vitae. Moreover, it shows the recruiter that it is the one and only position you are applying for. A word of advice: indicate the type of contract that you are applying for at this point: permanent, fixed-term, work study contract, internship, etc.

Then, add the sections that are essential to any CV template: your contact details, skills, experiences, qualities and even your hobbies.

Finally, don't forget to include your e-mail and telephone contacts (possibly Skype, LinkedIn or another network). Without this, recruiters will not be able to call you back.

2. Design it with a simple editing tool

In order to save time, we advise you to use a simple editing tool that will give you access to a lot of CV templates. This will allow you to create a very nice CV in the 10 remaining minutes.

You can add simple graphics and illustrations, which will make your CV pleasant to read. Using easy-to-use tools is essential as this will allow you to edit it regularly in a matter of minutes. For example, if you want to apply for a different job, you can easily change the title of your CV and save it as a PDF.

The only exception is if you are applying for a creative or artistic position, such as graphic designer, web designer or art director. In this case, we advise you to use DTP tools to create the design of your CV yourself. Indeed, expertise in these software programs is required. The most commonly used software is Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Indesign, but there are also cheaper tools such as Canva or Affinity. This will certainly take more time, but it will allow you to express your creative spirit and stand out for your originality. The CV then becomes an artistic exercise that is expected for this type of job. It may even be the subject of questions during an interview.

Once your CV has been created, all you have to do is send it to the companies you are targeting. Whether you are applying spontaneously or responding to a job offer, it will be necessary to write personalised cover letters. This will allow you to convince recruiters that you are the ideal person to join their team.
