The role of a teacher

The different types of teachers

A researcher and lecturer, they teach higher-level courses and are involved in academic research project.
Specialist teacher:

Adult educator:

Being a teacher in Luxembourg
In Luxembourg, teaching is a highly respected profession, particularly due to the quality of the multilingual education system. Proficiency in Luxembourgish, French and German is often required, especially in elementary schools.
Teachers' salaries in Luxembourg vary depending on the level of teaching, experience and type of establishment (public, private or international):
- At the start of their career, elementary and secondary school teachers generally earn a gross annual salary of €50,000 to €60,000.
- With experience, particularly after ten years' service, this salary can rise to €80,000 to €95,000 gross per year, or even more in higher education.
- In higher education, salaries vary depending on the position: a PhD student earns a gross annual salary of €33,000 to €37,000, while a Research associate earns €69,000 to €77,000 gross per year.
