The role of a mason
A mason (also called a bricklayer or a builder) is a construction professional who is involved from the very first stages of a construction or renovation project. They assemble materials (bricks, breeze blocks, stones, concrete, etc.) to build walls, partitions, foundations or floors. As a cornerstone of the construction sector, this job requires technical expertise, precision and organisational ability.
Bricklayers carry out work that is essential to the structure of buildings. Their main responsibilities include:
- Reading construction plans and preparing the site;
- Building foundations, load-bearing walls, slabs and partitions;
- Pouring concrete, laying bricks, blocks or stones;
- Erecting scaffolding and using formwork;
- Applying safety rules on the construction site;

Being a bricklayer in Luxembourg

- At the start of their career, bricklayers can earn a gross monthly salary of around €2,500 to €3,000;
- With several years of experience, remuneration can reach €3,500 to €4,000 gross/month;
- A team leader or site manager can earn more than €4,500 gross/month, depending on the structure and experience.
