About us

The University of Luxembourg is an international research university with a distinctly multilingual and interdisciplinary character.

The University of Luxembourg Competence Centre (ULCC) is the University's strategic hub for continuing education and lifelong learning. It designs and delivers university‑level programmes that address evolving professional needs, in close collaboration with academic experts and external partners. Within ULCC, the Learning & Development (L&D) activity focuses on staff and doctoral candidate development, offering a coherent portfolio of transversal trainings and innovative learning formats that support skills growth and a strong culture of continuous learning.

Your role

As Training Specialist dedicated to transferable skills (TS), you play a key role in preparing doctoral candidates (1100 in total) for their doctorate and for successful careers within and beyond academia. You contribute to the further development, implementation and follow‑up of a coherent portfolio of transferable skills trainings.

Main responsibilities:

  • Identify the transferable skills needs of doctoral candidates
  • Design and structure a catalogue of TS trainings tailored to different stages of the doctorate, e.g., early‑, mid‑, late‑stage, using varied learning formats
  • Identify and collaborate with internal and external instructors, ensuring the pedagogical quality and consistency of their contributions
  • Collaborate with the Office of Doctoral Studies and Doctoral Schools to align the TS offer with the University's policies on doctoral education
  • Plan and coordinate the TS training calendar
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure smooth training logistics and administrative follow‑up
  • Contribute to the visibility of the TS offer, e.g., website, welcome days, and advise doctoral candidates on relevant TS pathways
  • Collect and analyse participants' feedback and evaluate the impact of TS trainings
  • Enhance processes, tools and learning experiences through a continuous improvement approach
  • Contribute to L&D team transversal projects and to synergies between the offer for doctoral candidates and the wider training portfolio for University staff

Your profile

  • Master's degree in a relevant field; applications from PhD holders, who can demonstrate a strong understanding of doctoral training needs, are also very welcome
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience in designing and implementing training offers for adults, ideally in a higher education or research context
  • Good understanding of transferable skills for researchers
  • Good digital literacy and previous experience with learning management systems
  • Direct experience in doctoral education, as a former doctoral candidate, doctoral training officer or equivalent, is a strong asset
  • Demonstrated ability to plan, organise and deliver initiatives from conception to completion, including defining objectives, timelines and resources.
  • Proven ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders and contribute actively to shared goals
  • Excellent command of both English and French is required

We offer

  • A modern, dynamic university with a personal and inclusive atmosphere. Multilingual and international character. Staff coming from more than 90 countries. Member of The Guild of European Research Intensive Universities
