The Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH) at the University of Luxembourg is an interdisciplinary research centre committed to high-quality research and public dissemination in the field of contemporary history with a particular focus on digital methods and tools.
The C²DH's ambition is to venture off the beaten track and find new ways of doing, teaching and presenting contemporary history of Luxembourg and the history of Europe in the 20th and 21st centuries. Your role
Your role is to collect, consolidate, analyse, and report on financial and/or HR processes and consolidated data, in line with the C2DH strategy and within financial and reporting guidelines, to advise management on financial and/or HR planning, execution and performance, and to deliver correct, timely and complete financial and/or HR information that enhances/supports plan- and decision making. Embedded in a committed team, you will advocate the use of best practices in budget management and report directly to the C2DH Head of Operations. You will collaborate with the several colleagues and liaise with central departments and offices of the University of Luxembourg, e.g. for accounting, budgets, HR, VAT and others legal topics. Close collaboration with the budget holders and senior management is key and a problem-solving mind-set is requested. In your day-to-day business you will collect, manage, and update all the data related to the Centre's budgets and KPIs. In a strategic perspective, your goal is to effectively support and facilitate the planning and execution of the C2DH budgets. Concretely, the job includes the following tasks:
- Prepare budgets and forecasts, ensure monitoring of financial planning cycle
- Collect, consolidate, interpret, analyse financial and/or HR related data, make variance analysis between forecast, budget and actual, and issue advice at request or at own initiative
- Draw conclusions based on analysis and give advice on optimising existing practice
- Develop or improve and maintain financial and/or HR databases
- Ensure availability of complete, structured, coherent and relevant financial and/or HR information in the databases to foster decision making
- File information in appropriate finance and/or HR tools and databases
- Extract information from financial and/or HR databases and prepare/control periodical and ad-hoc reporting
- Suggest/contribute/lead initiatives to develop/improve planning/forecasting/reporting tools/procedures
- Provide ad hoc insights, analyses and advice to the C²DH management and the budget holders
- Alert on unusual evolutions, deviations, fluctuations or risks and formulate hypothesis/advice/solutions
- Streamline workflow to meet reporting deadlines
- Ensure coordination and alignment of financial and/or HR processes with other departments/entities
- Analyse, write/develop, document financial and/or HR procedures

Your profile
- Master's degree or equivalent by work experience
- Solid experience in budget, HR, and financial management involving multiple stakeholders
- Experience in research environment and/or in a university would be an asset and experience in managing budgets funded in foreign currencies could be a plus
- Demonstrated budget management and monitoring skills
- Knowledge of SAP-BI Excel and Analysis is an asset, and in Baserow, Jupyterlab and/or Pythonc could be plus
- The ideal candidate would have demonstrated experience in project management, ideally in complex and multicultural environments
- Demonstrated integrity and diplomacy, excellent and autonomous judgement, ability to apply sound judgment and critical thinking, and well-developed oral and written communication skills
- Result-focused, service oriented, able to meet deadlines and demonstrate methodological, organised, pragmatic and effective approaches to the work
- Open-minded, team-oriented and comfortable in a multidisciplinary and multicultural environment
- Proficiency with modern office software, spreadsheets and collaborative platforms
- Fluent in English and French, knowledge of German is a plus
