About Goodyear
We’re dedicated to producing, innovating, and servicing the best tires in the world. For over 125 years, Goodyear has led the way in developing smart solutions that shape the future of mobility. Today, we’re one global team united by bold thinking, relentless drive, and a passion to exceed expectations. If you’re ready to embrace change and make an impact in your career, let’s go.
Why This Role Matters
Global Performance & Simulation operates with a core vision of accelerating the tire development process through state-of-the-art knowledge and next-gen technologies to achieve one physical iteration. Our mission is rapid development and integration of virtual de-risking tools & processes reducing tire builds and testing. Life Cycle Mechanics drives to increase productivity of product development and drive new technology in treadwear, durability, tire energy, and wet & snow contact ;Â
As a Treadwear Performance Engineer, you will optimize tire designs to achieve treadwear performance targets across multiple product lines. This role blends analytical analysis, virtual assessment, experimental validation, and cross‑functional collaboration to reduce performance risk and ensure tires deliver superior treadwear performance under diverse operating conditions. You will lead and support advanced technology initiatives aimed at expanding treadwear performance prediction capabilities deeper into the virtual development ;
What You’ll Do
- Drive the development of next-generation tire performance technologies, expanding simulation-based, data-based, and test-based capabilities.
- Develop and refine predictive wear and performance models using FEA, wear simulations, statistical analysis, and modern data science methods.
- Correlate modeling results with laboratory and road test data to continuously improve model accuracy and robustness.
- Collaborate with tire design and product development teams to optimize tread patterns, balancing wear, noise, handling, and durability requirements.
- Evaluate tire/vehicle system performance through modeling, simulation, and testing to ensure design robustness and de-risk performance.
- Partner with OEMs, suppliers, and universities to advance virtual tire and vehicle development processes and improve efficiency and quality.
What You’ll Bring
- Master’s or PhD in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related engineering field.
- 5+ years of experience in tire wear, tire design, contact mechanics, frictional energy, or related automotive engineering areas.
- Strong knowledge of tire mechanics, wear modeling, material characterization, and tire technology and manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in data analysis and statistical tools (, MATLAB, Python, SAS JMP, Tableau, Power BI).
- Experience with vehicle simulation tools (, VI-Grade, IPG CarMaker, CarSim) and familiarity with tire testing standards (ASTM, SAE).
- Excellent problem-solving, project management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to present technical insights, plans, and status updates to senior management and work effectively across organizational functions.
We welcome applicants from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. Even if you don’t meet every listed qualification, we encourage you to apply.
