Your role

SnT is looking for a Research Data Steward to lead the organisational Research Data Management (RDM) development and shape the RDM support landscape within the organisation. The role will support the implementation and continuous improvement of RDM practices within SnT at the University of Luxembourg. The role is responsible for providing strategic oversight of Research Data Management (RDM) at the institutional level, including designing and evolving the RDM support strategy and contributing to the development and implementation of RDM policies. In parallel, the role delivers direct, hands‑on RDM support to researchers across the research data life cycle, ensuring alignment with institutional policies, FAIR data principles, and Open Science standards.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholders to strengthen and harmonise RDM workflows, provide expert guidance on daily data management practices and long‑term preservation, contribute to the development of sustainable and maintainable data management procedures, and actively participate in organisational and national communities and initiatives to ensure alignment with emerging best practices, standards, and strategic priorities.

Key responsibilities:

  • Implement and promote the institutional RDM policy, supporting researchers' understanding of and alignment with its requirements
  • Design, develop, and deliver RDM training, guidance materials, and awareness activities tailored to the diverse needs of research groups
  • Advise researchers on RDM best practices throughout the research data life cycle, including planning, documentation, storage, sharing, and long-term preservation
  • Raise awareness of FAIR data principles and Open Science practices across the Centre
  • Support and improve the preparation, review, and maintenance of Data Management Plans (DMPs) from initial drafting through funder submission and periodic updates
  • Assist researchers in selecting and using appropriate repositories to ensure data accessibility and long-term preservation
  • Standardise research data storage by identifying ad-hoc or non-institutional storage practices, establishing clear storage guidelines, and facilitating the adoption of secure institutional storage solutions
  • Identify researchers' needs related to RDM, proactively identify gaps in current RDM support, and provide evidence-based recommendations to the SnT management team
  • Contribute to the enhancement of SnT's RDM procedures, workflows, and service offerings to ensure effective organisational support

Your profile

  • MSc in a relevant field, such as information science, library science, data management, or a research discipline aligned with SnT's priority domains, combined with expertise in data-intensive research
  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in data stewardship, research support, research data management, or a similar role
  • Strong understanding of the research lifecycle, RDM best practices, the FAIR data principles, and leading data governance frameworks
  • Familiarity with funder and institutional RDM requirements (e.g., FNR, Horizon Europe)
  • Familiarity with GDPR and its application to research data, with the ability to recognise when to consult specialists
  • Familiarity with data security measures (e.g., encryption, access restrictions, anonymisation/pseudonymisation) sufficient to support storage standardisation responsibilities
  • Understanding of ethical aspects of RDM, including informed consent and ethical approval processes
  • Demonstrated ability to design and deliver training or information sessions for varied audiences
  • Possessing one or more of the following competencies is a strong asset:
    • Knowledge of and experience with relevant domain-specific metadata standards
    • Knowledge of legal aspects of RDM, including intellectual property rights and data licensing relevant to sharing and reusing research data
    • Skills in reproducible research and Open Science practices
  • Cooperative and collaborative team member; able to support colleagues and contribute to shared goals
  • Excellent command of English is required

We offer
