The electromechanics is a technician specialized in electromechanics, i.e. electricity AND mechanics, when both are interacting on the same equipment. He is also often called mechatronic when he has knowledge of electronics. And he is sometimes also an automatician, i.e. he knows how to manage the automatons on a production machine or machine tool, whether for programming or wiring.
In the great majority of cases, job offers are related to factories and manufacturing industries. The electro-mechanic can either be employed directly by the company for which he or she works, or via a service provider of the company, or even via a temp agency.
The trade consists in installing new machines, setting them up, wiring, programming, calibration, conducting tests, etc. The professional also performs routine machinery, to avoid breakdowns, which are unavoidable due to wear and tear on mechanical parts or obsolescence of electrical equipment. It also intervenes to troubleshoot, to ensure an optimum level of production. He also must manage an administrative part of his job, by documenting intervention reports or updating user manuals.
Regarding the educational background, you must have at least a General certificate or Technical certificate but Luxembourg employers often favour applications from candidates with a ""BAC Pro"" (Tech level), whether specialised in ""maintenance of industrial equipment"" or ""electrical engineering"". These conditions are sometimes specified directly in the job offer.
How to make the difference with a recruiter when looking for a job in mechanics / electricity / automation? Having the 3 skills is undeniably a plus. The electro-mechanic must be able to work both independently and as part of a team. His/her keen sense of observation, excellent analytical skills and ability to intervene quickly and well will be considered as assets.
