The depositary officer position is very well represented in Luxembourg. And this for a good reason: approximately 3,500 funds are currently being managed. As a depositary bank officer – more commonly known as a depositary officer in Luxembourg – your job consists of recording and controlling flows – settlement and delivery – and securities’ changes within a depositary bank. Your job can be defined on three levels:
- Custody,
- Fund admin: when the middle-office services of portfolio management companies are outsourced to the depositary,
- Depositary control: you have the role of depositary supervisor regarding European directives – namely AIFMD UCITS V. Indeed, you must ensure that fund managers – namely asset manager insurance, banks, UCITS managers – are complying with these regulations.
This position is accessible thanks to a university degree in Banking, Finance, Law, Audit and Management Control. Recruiters are particularly attracted by candidates having between 2 and 4 years of professional experience. Regarding your career, this job will be a first step in your career – as it is a generalist job – and will allow you to be in communication with a wide range of professionals – in management, sales, back office, clients such as management companies, for instance.
At the same time, this type of job can also be included in a training course to develop middle and back-office operators, portfolio managers, fund accountants, and so on.
