We are currently looking Head of Service (m/f/x) for our Pathological Anatomy service for a permanent position on a full-time basis.


The Head of Service is responsible for managing and supervising the activities of the Pathological Anatomy team within the National Center of Pathology (NCP). He/she ensures that diagnostic practices are carried out in accordance with quality standards and established procedures, while encouraging the development of skills within the team.


ABOUT THE LABORATOIRE NATIONAL DE SANTÉ


The LNS is a major player in Luxembourg’s healthcare sector, serving the country’s patients, doctors and hospitals. Under the supervision of the Ministry of Health and Social Security, the LNS is a multidisciplinary public institution organized around six medical departments, two of which are designated as national diagnostic centers for human genetics and pathology respectively.


The LNS employs around 400 highly qualified staff with diverse backgrounds. The main purpose of the LNS is to develop analytical activities and scientific expertise relating to the prevention, diagnosis and monitoring of human diseases; to act as a national control or reference laboratory; and to carry out forensic missions. The LNS also collaborates with the University of Luxembourg and other biomedical research institutions, both nationally and internationally, on research and teaching activities.


In particular, in the field of diagnostics, the LNS covers the following fields of application: medical biology, microbiology, forensic medicine, environmental medicine, morphological and molecular pathology, and clinical genetics, as well as sequencing for rare diseases, oncology and pathogens.


RESPONSIBILITIES :


MANAGEMENT AND COORDINATION :


  • Supervise and coordinate all activities in the Pathological Anatomy service;
  • Plan, organize and lead team meetings to discuss complex cases and share knowledge;
  • Liaise with other medical departments to ensure integrated patient management;
  • Collaborate with the head of department and unit heads to establish, monitor and supervise annual and long-term strategic and operational objectives, as well as to develop, monitor and manage the department’s annual budget and capital requirements;
  • Ensure that the service complies with current safety standards and regulations;
  • Participate in the laboratory’s accreditation and certification activities;
  • Ensure efficient management of the department’s human and material resources.


DIAGNOSIS AND EXPERTISE :


  • Perform and supervise routine and specialized in pathological anatomy examinations, including advanced techniques in macroscopy, cytology, histology, immunohistochemistry and molecular biology;
  • Validate examination reports and ensure their quality and compliance with medical standards;
  • Provide expert advice to colleagues and participate actively in multidisciplinary consultation meetings;
  • Participate in the continuing education of pathologists and medical staff;
  • Develop and implement continuous quality improvement initiatives within the service;
  • Promote the acquisition and use of new diagnostic technologies;
  • Ensure the application of best practices in diagnostic coding and nomenclature;
  • Develop research and teaching programs in the field of pathology.

 

PROFILE :


  • Doctorate in Medicine (MD) and specialization in anatomical pathology;
  • A minimum of five years’ experience as a medical specialist in anatomical pathology, with proven experience in management;
  • Authorization to practice in Luxembourg as a physician-specialist in anatomical pathology;
  • Demonstrated leadership, team management and communication skills;
  • Experience in molecular pathology diagnostics and digital pathology;
  • Fluency in French and English (knowledge of German is an asset).
