Unsere Altenhilfeeinrichtungen wurden von den Franziskanerinnen der Barmherzigkeit ins Leben gerufen.
Mitte des 19. Jahrhunderts hat Elisabeth Dufaing die Initiative ergriffen, die Kongregation der Franziskanerinnen von der Barmherzigkeit in Luxemburg zu gründen. Gottesglaube, Liebe zur Kirche, die befreiende Botschaft eines Franz von Assisi und tiefe Zuneigung zu den Armen prägten die Gründerin und ihr Werk. Als „Mutter Franziska“ ging sie schließlich in die Geschichte der Kongregation und nicht zuletzt in die Geschichte Luxemburgs ein.
1996 sollte es dann zu einem großen Umschwung in der 150-jährigen Geschichte der Kongregation kommen: Eine A.s.b.l. mit dem Namen „Homes pour Personnes Agées de la Congrégation des Franciscaines de la Miséricorde" (HPPA) wurde ins Leben gerufen. Zum ersten Mal musste in der Führungsebene der Altenheime die Mithilfe von Laien in Anspruch genommen werden, um das Weiterbestehen dieser zu garantieren. Die Führungsebene erhielt den Auftrag, die Häuser unter der Obhut der A.s.b.l. ins nächste Jahrtausend zu geleiten und dies stets im Sinne des Grundgedankens der Franziskanerinnen, nämlich: „Der bedürftige alte Mensch steht im Mittelpunkt.“
Heute betreibt HPPA asbl 6 Altenheime in allen Regionen des Landes (Redingen, Mamer, Luxemburg, Mersch, Klerf, Grevenmacher). Ein 7. Altenheim wird zur Zeit in Eischen errichtet. So betreuen mittlerweile mehr als 600 Mitarbeiter weit über 600 Bewohner, was HPPA zu einem der bedeutendsten Träger im Grossherzogtum macht.
