In Luxembourg, there is an increasing demand in terms of profiles, with background in all sector of engineering, namely in information technology - consulting. The main employers are IT services companies and consulting firms. However, we can also mention a great diversity of recruiters: web agencies, banks, car manufacturers, construction companies, government departments...
If you want to work as an IT engineer, you must hold an engineer's degree. However, you can also be eligible to this position if you have a master's degree (MIAGE or equivalent). For the most part, recruiters are seduced by specialised schools, since it launches students into the job market, from the early years. Moreover, these schools are offering specialised Masters in line with current challenges (Cybersecurity, Data management, FinTech, Blockchain...).
Depending on the roles, you can put forward your skills as a programmer and develop applications. You can work as an IT exploitation engineer, you will be taking care of the IT infrastructure, including systems and networks: installation of networks, operating systems, servers, database design. You may also be responsible for the company's management information system.
Thus, your job may vary and requires diverse skills depending on the size of the company. In a small company for instance, your knowledge in various field is considered an asset to deal with many subjects.
The working environment may vary according to the mission and the company. This is the reason why you must have in depth knowledge in computer science and be versatile. Finally, you may stand out from the crowd if you possess strong analytical skills and are able to think outside the box.
