JUNIOR FINANCIAL CONTROLLER (M/F)

THE JOB :
DO Recruitment Advisors is delighted to represent one of its clients, a private equity boutique mainly investing in Europe in the recruitment of a Junior Financial Controller  who will be assigned to the accounting, financial control and administration of the Management Companies / Advisory Entities of the Company Europe group including Luxembourg, UK and continental Europe advisor/ subadvisors.
She/He will be a Qualified accountant and have excellent written and oral communication skills, enjoy working as part of a smaller team and have a pro-active attitude to problem solving and coming up with solutions as part of own professional development.
The position is to be based in Luxembourg and may require travels to London or other location as business may demand.
Main responsibilities :  
Reporting and Treasury
- Responsible to maintain and assume ownership of the group's bookkeeping for multiple advisory companies across 4/5 European countries.
- Provide timely and accurate management accounts. Prepare consolidation (non-statutory) reporting for monthly, quarterly and annual results including oversight of implementation of Transfer Pricing mechanism. Provide best-in-class monthly finance reports for the management boards and local directors.
o Variance analysis, data modelling and cost reporting to COO and the senior management
o Business analytics and controls of accurate accounting records and system integrity for consolidation
o Translate financial and accounting data into meaningful Management Information (MI)
- Robust reporting of costs and key performance measurements. Review cost allocations between projects, inter-group shared expenses and reimbursements. Oversee the issuance of reimbursement invoices and inter-companies receivables/payments.
- Balance sheet substantiation, close monitoring of debtors, creditors, accruals and cash flow position at group and entity level.
- Treasury functions including management of purchase/vendors ledger and coordinate with service providers for monthly and ad-hoc payment processing. Prepare intra-group and reimbursement monthly invoices.
- Working collaboratively with the local providers and administrators, ensuring they are informed of all significant matters on a day-to-day operations. Accountable for the quality and accuracy controls in providers' deliverables.
- Assisting in preparation of annual budget and forecasts. Prepare a forward-looking cashflow for monthly and quarterly reporting.
- Preparation of invoices and cash settlements.
- Responding to ad-hoc queries raised by the COO and senior management team.
Statutory, Tax and Regulatory
- Preparation of annual statutory accounts of advisory companies under Lux GAAPs
- Review annual statutory accounts prepared by external service providers across 4 European countries and manage the audit process where applicable.
- Overview VAT considerations, payments and filing liaising with external service providers as required.
- Oversee the monthly payroll prepared by the local service providers and review monthly payroll accounting entries. Prepare and reconcile payroll / social security records against budget.
- Coordinate with local tax advisors to ensure preparation of tax returns. Review of the tax returns and coordination with local tax advisors to ensure proper filing of tax returns.
Systems/Governance
- Review all existing processes, recommending and implementing enhancements where appropriate to ensure that robust processes and control are embedded to allow moving towards an efficient and error-free environment.
- Support the Finance and Operation teams in the evolution of the Finance function such as implementation of new ERP system, ensuring local providers adhere with the reporting parameters. Integration of appropriate IT solutions across the business.
- Lead/ support the appropriate administration and governance of the advisory entities
Other:
- General support to rest of Finance and Operations team and firms management with ad-hoc queries regarding fund accounting and reporting.
- Potential participation as member of the board of directors of Luxembourg entities

THE CANDIDATE PROFILE :
- Qualified accountant - ACA, CIMA, ACCA or equivalent from mid-tier (non-audit) accountancy practice, with 1-3 years' experience in a similar management accounting and/or controller role ideally in small to medium size organisation.
- Relevant experience within the financial services sector, ideally within an investment management and advisory firm.
- Advanced understanding with common ERP accounting software such as Netsuite or equivalent. Experience in data-management and MIS consolidation.
- Confidence with fundamental accounting concepts and practice. Ability to adopt the best practice both accounting and MIS data processing, with an open-mind to adopt new changes.
- Knowledge of the full remit of compliance competencies with a comprehensive understanding of the various roles in the investment fund industry, and more particularly of the operating mechanisms of a management company, but also of a custodian bank, transfer agent, fund administration and the related regulatory framework, will be considered as an asset.
- Highly driven and motivated individual, with the patience and ambition to build a rewarding career with a leading firm. Strong commitment and ability to meet deadlines.
- Have strong planning and organizing skills, pro-activeness, flexibility, multi-tasking and the ability to self-manage your workload. The role requires the individual to be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously across a variety of entities and outsourced service providers.
- Solid experience and confidence in Excel functions and dynamic links (e.g. pivot table, formulas etc..). Ability to design and create financial models to generate meaningful MIS reports and PowerPoint presentation.
- Strong analytical and numeracy skills and intellectual curiosity.
- Basic understanding of tax and payroll would be advantage but not essential.
- Highly personable, team player with the desire and ability to create relationships across the group and external service providers.
- Be fluent in English and French. Italian, Spanish, German languages are a plus.
