Since 1 July 2018, following the entry into force of the Law of 27 March 2018 on the organisation of civil security and the establishment of the Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS), all national emergency and rescue service organisations have been brought together within a single public institution known as the Corps grand-ducal d’incendie et de secours (CGDIS).

The CGDIS brings together the following organisations:

municipal fire and rescue services,
Civil Protection units,
the Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU),
the City of Luxembourg Fire and Ambulance Service,
airport firefighters.

The Corps grand-ducal d’incendie et de secours is responsible for emergency medical and rescue services as well as firefighting and technical rescue operations.

The CGDIS is based at the Centre national d’incendie et de secours (CNIS), 3, boulevard de Kockelscheuer, L-1821 Luxembourg.
