The food and beverage manager holds a key role, since in charge of the catering services of the place where he/she works. His missions consist in managing and making the department's budget profitable, choosing the right suppliers, defining the food cost, setting the selling price, approving the menu, controlling stocks, checking the quality of the dishes and compliance with hygiene and sanitary standards, ensuring customer satisfaction and intervening in the event of complaints, etc. In addition, the food & beverage manager is responsible for managing, coordinating and training all staff under his or her authority and is even involved in recruitment.
The F&B manager can work in the tourism, hotel and restaurant sectors, whether in restaurants in resorts, hotels, vacation villages, cruise ships, but also in large restaurants, brasseries or caterers. In Luxembourg, potential employers include the Hotel Le Royal, Parc Hôtel Alvisse, Campanile Luxembourg, Domaine Thermal de Mondorf, Hotel Le Place d'Armes, Relais et Châteaux, Cocottes - SBR Lux, the restaurant Glacis by Wenge, Luxair, etc.
To land a job as a food & beverage manager, you must hold a general certificate, or technical certificate (BEP or CAP) with a specialisation in hotel and catering and have experience as a chef de rang or maître d'hôtel. It should be noted, however, that recruiters often hire candidates with a Tech Level or a two-year technical degree (BTS) with a specialisation in hotel and catering. If you are familiar with several foreign languages in Luxembourg, this will be considered a true asset. Also, the job of food & beverage manager is one of the highest positions, there are not many possibilities of evolution, except towards a position of hotel manager or hotel general manager.
