Luxembourg is on a roll! Whether in economic performance, digital innovation or quality of life, the Grand Duchy continues to impress and strengthen its position as one of Europe’s most attractive countries. Let’s take a look at the latest successes putting Luxembourg in the spotlight!

Competitiveness: Luxembourg bounces back

Luxembourg has recently climbed three spots in the “IMD World Competitiveness Yearbook”, moving up three places and now ranking 20th out of 69 countries. For context, competitiveness refers to an economy’s ability to generate high and sustainable levels of income, employment and social cohesion, all while operating in a globally competitive environment.

This rebound comes after a dip in 2024, when Luxembourg dropped to 23rd place. While this improvement is encouraging, the country has yet to reclaim its former position among the elite top 15, where it consistently featured until 2022. According to the Chamber of Commerce, there’s still work to be done for Luxembourg to move out of what it calls the “soft middle” of the rankings.

Luxembourg is a digital leader in Europe

After making waves on the international arts scene, Luxembourg is now shining in the European digital landscape. It has just secured 2nd place, just behind Malta, in the 2025 eGovernment Benchmark published by the European Commission.

With an outstanding score of 89.4%, well above the EU average of 74.5%, Luxembourg has cemented its position as a frontrunner in the digital transformation of public services.

This annual benchmark assesses how effectively European countries digitalise public services for citizens and businesses. This year, three key pillars were closely examined:

  • Online Services: availability of procedures online, mobile compatibility, and transparency around how services function.
  • Interoperability: ease of access using secure authentication systems, including for foreign users, and clear data privacy practices.
  • User-friendliness: intuitive platforms such as Guichet.lu and MyGuichet.lu, online support, and transparency in service design.

Luxembourg’s performance reflects its strong commitment to delivering digital public services that are high-quality, accessible, and user-centred.

Luxembourg, a true slice of paradise

According to the United Nations’ World Happiness Report, Luxembourg ranks as the 9th happiest country on the planet! Since 2020, the Grand Duchy has consistently remained in the top 10, even if it has slipped one spot this year.

But how is happiness measured? The report takes into account several factors: life satisfaction, standard of living, life expectancy, social support, freedom, GDP per capita, and perceived corruption levels. On all these fronts, Luxembourg performs admirably, especially when it comes to social cohesion, overall well-being, personal freedom, and impressive life expectancy.

And there’s more good news! In the Global Liveability Index by the Economist Intelligence Unit, which assesses the quality of life in 173 cities worldwide, Luxembourg has jumped six places this year to reach 11th position, just shy of the global top 10.

In short, Luxembourg truly is a great place to live!

While there’s still a journey ahead to reach the very top, the Grand Duchy has already shown it has all the ingredients to continue shining on the international stage. The future looks bright for this small country with big ambitions!
