STATEC has published the 2026 edition of its report “Luxembourg in Figures”. It contains numerous figures and statistics about Luxembourg. This edition presents data for 2025. Discover a summary of the key figures relating to employment in Luxembourg.
Labour market
Luxembourg had 522,200 workers in 2025, of whom 237,200 were cross-border workers living outside the country. Of these, 124,900 came from France, 53,400 from Germany and 51,900 from Belgium.
The unemployment rate averaged 6% in Luxembourg in 2025. This represents an increase compared with the average rate of 5.7% in 2024.
The report also provides the number of workers by sector. The sector employing the most people is health and social work, with 62,300 workers, followed by professional, scientific and technical activities and financial and insurance activities. In 2020, the retail and wholesale trade sector ranked first, but although employment in the sector has increased, the other sectors now employ more workers.

The report also includes a list of the largest employers in Luxembourg as of 1 January 2026. The three largest employers are:
- Dussmann;
- CFL;
- Ville de Luxembourg.

Salaries
According to the report, the average salary per adult in the country is €4,973 gross per month, while the median salary stands at €4,170 gross per month. The median income means that half of the population earns more than this amount, while the other half earns less.
In September 2026, the social minimum wage (SSM) stands at €2,771.33 for unskilled adult workers. The qualified SSM, meanwhile, is €3,325.59. For minors, it stands at €2,078.49 for those aged 15–17 and €2,217.06 for 17-year-olds.
Distribution of salaries by sector and gender (gross annual amount)
When comparing annual salaries by sector, it can be seen that, except in the construction sector, women generally earn less than men. This may seem paradoxical, as the gender pay gap in Luxembourg is negative. In fact, women earn an average of 0.8% more than men. This indicator is calculated across all hourly wages in the country, without distinguishing between occupations or levels of responsibility, which explains the difference compared with a ranking based on sector and annual salary.
These gaps are expected to narrow further with the implementation of European legislation on pay transparency across the European Union.
The report also provides a ranking of salaries by municipality across the Grand Duchy. The three municipalities with the highest monthly salaries are:
- Niederanven, with an average of €12,556.81 and a median of €7,047.72;
- Schuttrange, with an average of €11,558.19 and a median of €6,814.50;
- Strassen, with an average of €11,407.66 and a median of €6,924.94.
At the other end of the scale, the three municipalities with the lowest salaries are:
- Wiltz, with an average of €4,269.94 and a median of €3,472.73;
- Reisdorf, with an average of €4,342.37 and a median of €3,637.89;
- Vianden, with an average of €4,481.93 and a median of €3,712.82.
Other key figures
Luxembourg's GDP stood at €89.5 billion in 2025. This represents an increase of more than €3 billion compared with 2024.
Luxembourg's population stood at 691,000 people in 2025, 47% of whom were not Luxembourgish.
According to STATEC, 16.3% of workers took part in a business trip in 2025. France remains the number one destination for business travel among workers in Luxembourg.
