Launched by Moovijob.com in 2010 in Strasbourg, the concept of recruitment evenings has grown significantly over the past few years. Eight years after their launch, what makes these events so successful? What do they offer that traditional job fairs do not?

Some insights from Moovijob.com, currently preparing the next Plug&Work Luxembourg evening.

A growing number of recruitment channels

Back in the day, there was the newspaper and classified ads to find or change jobs. The internet had not yet taken over our daily lives, and smartphones were not yet practically an extension of our hands! Today, the ways to connect with a future employer have multiplied.

So many options, but with what results?

Nicolas Nguyen, Sourcing Manager at Moovijob.com, explains: "Job boards, social networks, job fairs, recruitment agencies, referrals… job seekers today have a wide range of channels to connect with companies they are interested in. At Moovijob.com, we offer the choice between online matching via our platform Moovijob.com and face-to-face meetings through around ten events organised each year!"

These events are enjoying growing success, even in an increasingly digital world. The internet is useful, but real-life interaction works better.

According to Nicolas: "Real-life meetings mainly save time, for both recruiters and candidates. You meet, you exchange looks, and the connection happens naturally. Many companies end up hiring people they would never have selected just by looking at a CV. That’s what we call the magic of the event."

An innovative concept that evolves with the times

There is a certain sense of attraction surrounding recruitment, the Moovijob.com way. It is no surprise that the company launched the concept of recruitment evenings back in 2010.

Yannick Frank, Country Manager at Moovijob.com, explains: "When we launched the Plug&Work concept, people didn’t really understand it: job-hunting evenings, and in unusual venues? The idea was a bit confusing at first, but it quickly became clear that once you try it, you adopt it."

Recruitment evenings offer many advantages that quickly won over participants from the very first edition in Strasbourg. Companies hire, visitors get hired, what else? Recruiters enjoy cocktails while meeting qualified candidates. Guests meet companies while enjoying a relaxed, lounge-style atmosphere. Everything is designed for a pleasant evening… sometimes making you forget it is actually a recruitment event.

And then there is the highly selective pre-screening carried out by Moovijob.com, which plays a key role in the success of these evenings.

Yannick continues: "During our last Luxembourg event organised in Paris, we only invited 500 people out of 1,500 registrations. There are inevitably some disappointed candidates, but the matching work ensures both companies and visitors get real value from the experience. Nobody comes for nothing."

Company participation is also limited to 40 businesses, for confidentiality reasons and to maintain a high-quality experience.

Recruitment may not yet be an official Olympic discipline, but meeting your future employer in a sports arena certainly makes for a memorable twist!
