Product development Formulation Chemist

About the Role

Our Product Development Formulation Department is looking for a motivated Formulation Chemist or Laboratory Assistant to temporarily reinforce our team. You will support the development of detergent products by contributing to laboratory testing, sample preparation, data reporting, and project follow‑up. Working closely with formulation engineers and the broader R&D team, you will play a key role in ensuring high-quality and timely delivery of laboratory activities.

Fixed-term contract : 1 year (replacement)

Key Responsibilities

Health & Safety

• Work in full compliance with established Health & Safety standards.
• Use laboratory experience to proactively propose improvements in safety and efficiency.

Application Laboratory Activities

• Perform physical and chemical analyses of market products, interpreting results together with the reference engineer.
• Enter results accurately into the laboratory database.
• Conduct performance testing strictly according to standard methods.
• Verify equipment in accordance with the planned schedule.
• Calibrate laboratory instruments following the defined procedures.

Technology & Formulation Support

• Prepare samples for new formulations, ensuring alignment with internal and external customer requirements.
• Carry out stability testing for new formulations and alternative raw materials, following protocols and reporting findings.
• Prepare customer samples with correct processes and labelling.
• Execute laboratory work for benchmarking in collaboration with the formulation engineer.
• Prepare samples for external testing required during formulation development.
• Collaborate with Product Development engineers to develop new test methodologies supporting innovation.
• Liaise with suppliers to obtain new raw materials when needed.

Customer Focus

• Deliver timely and accurate samples for customer tenders and commercial requests.

Communication & Technical Support

• Provide formulation details to R&D engineers to support creation of technical documentation.
• Report project and activity progress regularly to R&D engineers.
• Work with the R&D team to ensure the right level of technical support is provided to Business Units and customers.

Technical Competencies & Qualifications

Languages

• French: mandatory (spoken & written)
• English: desirable (written & spoken)

Systems

• Good working knowledge of Word, Excel, Outlook, and internet tools
• Experience with SAP preferred

Knowledge & Experience

• Awareness of chemicals, product formulation principles, and laboratory procedures
• Previous experience in detergent product development or application testing is an advantage (but not mandatory for the Lab Assistant profile)
